In this story, Superman is drugged by the Joker and accidently kills his own wife Lois Lane and his unborn child. After their deaths, a bomb was detonated in Metropolis, killing millions and leaving the city in rubble and smoke. This enrages Superman, which causes him to murder the Joker by running his hand through the Joker's chest, instantly killing him. Superman then leads a crusade with other superheroes such as Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern in order to cease all war, crime, and violence on Earth, stopping them before they occur and punishing anyone if they dare commit them. Batman, who believes that people should be the ones governing themselves, opposes Superman by forming an insurgency and recruits heroes such as Green Arrow, Black Canary, and a reformed Harley Quinn to fight against Superman's regime.
